3- & 4-Wheeler

Chassis Dynamometer to test E-4 wheeler and E-3 wheeler

The Chassis Dynamometer is designed to test E-4 wheeler  and E-3 wheeler (rickshaw). It is specifically designed to serve as a load unit with energy consumption testing, distance accumulation, and R&D testing on E-4 wheeler  and E-3 wheeler.

The system can be operated in the following operating modes:

  1. Speed mode/Constant Speed condition
  2. Torque mode/Constant Load condition
  3. Power mode/Constant Power condition
  4. Load from Excel/Predefined loading sequence
  5. Time base loading control and speed control profile
  6. Warm-Up/Temperature Rise test
  7. Coast-Down check
  8. A real road load simulation

System Roll

The roll is designed utilizing a heavy walled pipe with low vibration characteristics and exceptional noise abatement characteristics. The roll is precision machined to provide optimal performance and tire traction for the testing purposes.

Cooling Blower System

The cooling system is comprised of an AC cooling blower and an AC variable speed motor controller (Inverter). The blower consists of axial cooling fan, casters, inlet and discharge guards, aluminum prop, 3-phase motor of 15 hp 400 VAC, variable frequency drive. The unit is integrated with the dynamometer to synchronize speed of fan with roller speed.

System Test Types

Constant Speed

The system allows the operator to select a constant speed to hold the test vehicle, regardless of the throttle position (as long as the vehicle does not apply more power than what the motor/generator can absorb).

Constant Torque

The system allows the operator to select a constant load to apply to the test vehicle, regardless of the throttle position (as long as the speed is higher than 2 kph and lower than 160 kph).

Load from Excel/Predefined Loading Sequence

The Predefined Script Test can be used for durability or performance testing, or to simulate real-world loading profiles.

The dynamometer controller accepts an Excel file, if the operator wants to create a unique Drive Schedule or one that is not already set up in the system. The file should contain the collected data, so the system can play it back.

The test can take a CSV/Excel file, and play back an event in the following modes:

  • Force vs. Time
  • Road Load with Grade vs. Time
  • Force vs. Distance
  • Road Load with Grade vs. Distance

Warm-Up Test

The system allows the operator to perform a dynamometer warm-up sequence. The test usually is set for 15 minutes at 50 kmh. The 15 minutes is adequate to warm up the dynamometer, since we use low loss bearings in the system.

Coast-Down Check

The system will perform a coast-down at the base inertia weight value of the dynamometer system. The dynamometer will use the motor/generator to motor the system above 70 kph, and then the motor/generator will begin to absorb the predetermined load. The load will cause the system to coast from 70 kph to 60 kph or 50 kph in the required time window. The coast-down check is a very good way to measure the overall health of the loading and parasitic loss compensation of the dynamometer.
